Our wonderful neighborhood is a treasure trove of creative folks. On March 4th at 4:00 we are proud to present Elizabeth Weil for a talk and book signing. Humphry Slocombe will be serving ice cream and with ice cream comes cookies. We were also thinking some wine. Come by and meet this insightful author.

I am getting rid of old stuff because I am moving my home. I have collected various things over the years. Damask tablecloths, Kokeshi dolls, Mirth is King bottles and figurines. I often ponder the difference between old stuff and vintage. A tablecloth clean and ironed from the 50’s is vintage and folks covet them. The same tablecloth wrinkled and in a heap is a less than $5 garage sale item.

The question of the week has been “Did you find any new, good stuff in NY?”. Of course I did. It is an airless bubble of humanity filled with carefully arranged stuff, (99% not me) but somehow, like any steady persistent search in land one is very familiar with you find treasures. I found a thing that holds your Iphone so you can hang it, great for contractors or pocketless days. I found a take out container made of silicon to bring your lunch to work in. Practical style is my new mantra. Please stay tuned as UPS brings more boxes from around the world each day. Tea is arriving by Monday stop by and choose some samples of tea to try at home. Then vote for which one is your favorite.

Hello,

This is news from Heartfelt to begin the year 2012.

As many of you know I had a dream of a tea room in my imagination for a few years now. I firmly believe that with all the time we spend behind or in front of inanimate objects with keyboards, that sitting down with each other over a hot cup of tea would enrich our neighborhood and in turn our lives in perhaps a small way. There is this soft, no stress, visually pleasing spot that I have tried to offer within Heartfelt over the years and I was ready to spill it over into tea and small sandwiches. The logistics were not aligning and the project has been put away. The good news is that we are going to sell loose tea in the store and there will be opportunity to taste within the store. I am also selling vintage tea pots and tea cups that I have collected over time.

Movement and shifting is healthy and I am determined to focus on the positive outcome of a project passing and new opportunities popping up.

I have a lot of vintage fabrics, I wanted to put them to good use. Within our Heartfelt walls is a very creative skilled person, Brook.

We both sew. We are putting all these ingredients together and have come up with a baby jacket line called “Broodette” (little brood).

They are handmade here in San Francisco. Keep checking the rack in the baby section to see more one of a kind, little works of art appear.

They make a perfect first baby gift.

We have an exciting event coming up on Tuesday, February 7th, 6:00 p.m, Sam Mogannam from Bi Rite Market is going to talk about his book “Eat Good Food”.

There will be snacks from Bi-Rite served and hot tea from us!

This book is not just for foodies, it is a fascinating guide that teaches us how food is important not just for our bodies but also for our community.

We have a red carnival light up arrow in the store and it points up. I have started to attach good vibes/luck to it. I don’t think it matters where we get this energy from or what inanimate object we attach it to. In other words I will take it wherever I can get it. On on a totally unrelated topic the tea room is not happening so I am selling the teapots I have collected over the years. This is not sad, this is moving ahead. I am going to the fancy food show today to check out loose teas and tins. We are planning on selling tea and cookies in tins in 2012.

It is interesting as busy as I am now I feel reflective and grounded regarding the store. Shopping just like anything has it’s ying and yang moments and hopefully we provide a sense of fullness when you are feeling empty. Not sure what to get someone and feeling bogged down by the holiday lists and seeming requirements, a search around the store at its holiday best can turn up many easy answers. I frequently see moods change and spirits lift with just a little help from our folks. It is also fun to see what surfaces to the top as a hit or top seller. The log pillow is truly soaring towards 1st place this year. Come on by and check it out.

I am in Paris and it is a constant stream of inspiration. My mind is jumbled series of images from the Tea shop Angelina to the paintings at the Musee d’Orsay. I have never seen so many Bonnards in one place. Even the orderly rows at the local patteserie inspire me for Heartfelt. I was at the Cafe du Commerce and if could speak French at all I would have asked them where the paper table covers were from because even they were cool with their orange borders and clean white square shape. So here I am on the couch in the wee apartment and a blast of inspiration comes this time from home…. via Heartfelt. A sample of some baby jackets we are working on to sell in the store truly one of a kind from old fabrics I have collected for years! Thanks Brook!

Here are the bears from the “Bear In Underwear” book. I approve of the idea of a story about a stuffie. One gets to know aspects of his or her personality and then the imagination can make up all sorts of delightful imaginary stories of one’s own. The bear and the book make a great gift.

I survived Halloween and now we enter the High Holy Days in retail. It was fun dressing up as Cruella and I think some of the kids that got their picture taken with me wondered why their parents approved of me enough to let a photo opportunity happen.. after all was I not the one planning on making a coat out of puppies. They would crane their necks and look up at me wondering if this really was safe.

Stay tuned for details re: our more than ever full walls. We truly have the best gift items this year. I still swear that giving is the best getting.

I bought these hand crocheted pot holders at an estate sale and washed them. They hung on our deck for a few days and I like how they look all in a row. I am putting them out for sale this weekend. Come on by.

I really appreciate the bounty the bay area offers and pink pomegranates in October is one of them. The seeds are pale pink and much softer and sweeter than the red ones. I use them in salads, on pancakes and just snack on them. A lovely gift would be two or three and two perfect bowls.
